Hal Moss

Lucent Technologies (Ret.)

Hal Moss has more than 35 years of experience in the continuous casting and the nonferrous industry. He started his career at the Staten Island, New York, scrap reclamation facility owned by Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T. He was at that facility from 1963 to 1968 at which time he pioneered the development of one of the first copper continuous casting and rolling plants in the world. In 1969 he left for Sumitomo Electric in Yokohama and Osaka, Japan. He transformed their conventional wire bar facility into a continuous casting and rolling line. In 1970 he returned to the USA and went to work for Essex Wire in Three Rivers, Michigan. He worked on the development of their unique continuous casting process. He then returned to Western Electric in 1975 to work on plans to develop a new scrap reclamation plant being planned for Gaston, South Carolina. He was involved with the complete process of purchase, installation, and start-up of a Hazelett Caster and Krupp rolling mill for that facility. He then went on to manage both the tank house and rod mill facility at that location. He retired in 1999 after 10 years at the Lucent Atlanta fiber optics plant, where he had transferred from the Gaston facility. He obtained numerous patents at Western Electric, Sumitomo, and Essex Wire.
